City Hall Leuk
Michael Mageran acquired great wealth with salt and also asserted himself in politics. He was governor of Valais in the 17th century.
History
The striking tower of the town hall has a pentagonal ground plan. Built in the 13th century, the tower served as the official residence of the Vizedominus of Leuk, the local representative of the sovereign, the Bishop of Sion. During the Rarn confusion in 1415, the original building was severely damaged. In 1541, the Burgschaft of Leuk acquired the walls and had them converted into the town hall by Ulrich Ruffiner. The tower has been a listed building since 1934.
